RHINO BUCKET - The Hardest Town (CD) USA January 2010 Ad van Osch Style: Hard Rock Running time: 44:53 (Tracks: 11) RHINO BUCKET is an American Hard Rock band from Los Angeles, who was formed way back in 1988 and are heavily inspired by Australian rockers AC/DC, especially the Bon Scott era. The band had released the following albums in the 90's: "Rhino Bucket" (1990), "Get Used To It" (1992) and "Pain" (1994). In 1996 they went on an extended hiatus, but reformed again in 2001. The fourth album "And Then It Got Ugly" was released in 2006. The current line-up of the band exists of Georg Dolivo (vocals, guitar), Brian Forsythe (lead guitar, formerly from KIX), Reeve Downes (bass) and Simon Wright (drums) who've played on AC/DC's albums "Fly On The Wall" (1985), "Who Made Who" (1986) and "Blow Up Your Video" (1988) but also in DIO (on the "Lock Up The Wolves" (1990), "Magica" (2000), "Killing The Dragon" (2002) and "Master Of The Moon" (2004) albums). Wright had been a member of RHINO BUCKET before (he played on the "Pain" album), but reunited with the band in 2007. So, "The Hardest Town", which was already released on May 5th 2008, is the fifth studio album and features eleven songs in the well-known AC/DC tradition. Really, the riffs, the solo's, they could have been from AC/DC themselves. Anyway, before I bought this album half November of 2008, I only had two songs of the band on soundtrack albums. "Ride With Yourself" on the "Wayne's World" (1992) soundtrack and "Soundtrack To A War: Welcome To Hell" on "The Wrestler" (2009) soundtrack. "The Hardest Town" was produced by Rick Ballard and the band themselves and sounds fantastic. A few songs are in my opinion a bit less, which are "No One Here", "Take Me Down" and "Slip Away" (the bonus track of the album). But really, songs like "The Hardest Town" (superb), "Justified", "Know My Name" (superb), "Dog Don't Bite", "Street To Street", "She's With Me" and "To Be Mine" are all awesome. Also the guitar solo's of Forsythe are great and really sound like if Angus Young is playing them. Also Dolivo sounds pretty much like Bon Scott (R.I.P.). This is an excellent album and a real must for anyone who's into AC/DC and AIRBOURNE. The band is doing an European tour from January 7th until February 20th, so go see them if you want.
