Interview with Reeve Downes from Rhino Bucket
March 20th, 2006

1. When did you start playing?

I was about 15 or 16

2. Why did you start playing?

Black Sabbath and The Stones

3. 3 favourite albums of all time? (at least one)

I have hundreds, right now I'm listening to Exile on Main Street (I saw the Stones last week)
some Queens of the Stoneage (particularly the tune "Burn the Witch") and a lotta blues.

4. Who are your musical influences?

The Blues and the Blues

5. What is it about this instrument that attracted you?

The feel and sound of an elecric bass in a room still makes me want to play.

6. Best live show you've seen / would like to see?

There has been so many, most by people no one has heard of.
Two shows I saw early in life that come to mind are Van Halen
opening for the original Sabbath (first concert I ever saw, I was 12
my mother drove me to the show) and The Clash on the London
Calling tour (Mom probably drove me to that one too!)

7. In your opinion, Internet is the future of music business?

No, just another component. I feel that live performance should be the most important thing

8. What is your favourite song to perform, and why?

This changes almost daily, but usually it is whatever is new

9. The lost years 1994-2001??

I played in a bunch of different bands many with Brian
(Trance Poets, Purple Gang, Snakehandlers) some with Georg
(Buzzard Kills 7, which also featured Jackie for a while)
and one with Georg and Brian (Deep Six Holiday).
Besides Rock I love the Blues, R&B and I even find myself
playing a little outlaw country now and then.

10. What was the very first tune(s) you learned?

I started on guitar so it was Smoke on the Water (incorrectly)
and then the entire Sex Pistol's album "Nevermind the Bullocks"
(a little easier). Later when I got a Bass I played along to a
Johnny Winter album called "Gunslinger". The bass player was
guy named Johnny Gayden I believe.

11. How do you rate your live performance ability? (Be very critical)

I really try not to judge myself as I tend to be overly critical.
I guess I have impossibly high standards. Generally speaking if myself
and my bandmates aren't playing on a very high level I'm not satisfied.

12. Is your family musical?

My parents don't play but my younger brother did.
I had an uncle who played bass in the sixties band
"The Blues Magoos" who was an influence.
I did grow up around a lot of people in show business
so a music career was not unheard of.

13. What is the main goal of the new album?

TO ROCK!!!! This is always the goal

14. What would be your job if not musician?

I have hated every day job I've ever had

15. Any last words of wisdom...

Figure out what you want to do with your life and do it.
I know this sounds cliche' but it really is true
